Knight Shield Risk Management was founded by Nolan Shaheed Knight in the summer of 1996, in Atlanta, GA, when there was an increased need for security services. At the time, there were big production companies coming to the area, including Disney, MTV Films, Fox Films, etc. that needed security on their film sets. Additionally, there was a growing need for security at local sporting events and concerts, with the likes of major headliners like Justin Timberlake, Outcast, Beyonce, and more.
At the time, Nolan was a graduate of the prestigious Morehouse College and an active/reserve member of Georgia POST, certified Police Officer and Instructor. He saw this growing need for quality security services, but in order to be successful he would need to be able to rapidly dispatch guards to various film sets, sporting events, and concert locations. Nolan networked with his close allies at the Board of Private Detectives and Security Professionals, of which he was a member. This granted Nolan an advantage from the start, because he had reliable and qualified professionals at his disposal from day one. As a way to further separate himself from the competition, Nolan utilized his 25+ years of industry experience and highlighted how it could benefit his clients.
Knight Shield was dedicated to having a positive and effective impact on the client’s workplace culture, and enhancing their bottom line by decreasing losses and liabilities. As a result of this approach, Knight Shield’s services quickly gained a strong reputation within the region. Soon, the company found its client base rapidly growing, eventually holding $30 million in corporate contracts from Atlanta to Miami, and employing 150 personnel and contractors.
With the fast-moving growth of his business, Nolan knew that payroll would “be a bear of a cash crunch” without some financial help, so he reached out to Primary Funding looking for some working capital. With the staggering of the contracts, cash would be flowing into the business on a regular basis, but neither Nolan nor his employees could wait the NET 30 terms associated with the contracts. In the interim, Nolan decided he would bill separate contracts every couple of weeks and utilize the invoices generated to get instant cash from Primary Funding to fulfill his payroll needs.
It was a great success. Over the past year, Knight Shield has partnered with Primary Funding to help fill the gaps in cash flow. The partnership has allowed Knight Shield to take on new contracts, knowing they have the financial support to back it up. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!
