TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOB. WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING AT PFC?
Well my job has changed a lot over the years. You see I grew up in this business. My Mom, Patricia Burns is the founder of PFC. It certainly wasn’t my dream job back when I was a kid growing up doing homework in her office or making a few extra bucks filing for her over the summers. But I certainly learned a lot. When my husband Jason and I decided to take over the business to help my mom out, I was able to channel my younger years in her office to help out on a variety of things. That was 9 years ago when we took over PFC.
Now we have an amazing staff that is way more efficient than I am and has really taken PFC to the next level. I now work part-time and handle payroll, paying the bills, helping out with the backend of this lovely monthly Newsletter and any other task that are thrown my way. I may only work part-time, but I do love our office family. Everyone at PFC brings something new to the table in both their skills and personality. Let me tell you we have A LOT of personality! Coming from marketing in the tech industry I always thought working in finance would be boring, but I love my coworkers and even more so the clients we come across and help on a regular basis.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO ON YOUR DAYS OFF?
Spending time with family and friends. Whether that be dining, traveling or just catching up. I also love to play tennis competitively and just for fun with friends. Many times you can find me out hiking with my favorite buddy Dash our Rhodesian Ridgeback.
WHERE DID YOU GO TO COLLEGE? WHAT IS YOUR DEGREE IN?
I started here in San Diego at San Diego State, but I was a little distracted by all the fun that college brought. So later transferred to Sonoma State. It was a much smaller school back then and I was able to focus a little more. I started out in Accounting trying to follow in my mother’s footsteps, but I soon figured out that numbers at that level were not my forte. Sonoma being in the wine country offered a winemaking degree that was tempting for a bit, but I landed in marketing. I spent much of my career working in communications, events and promotions in the tech/ mobile industry. The funny thing is now I find myself back in accounting. I am still not that great at it, but no one else wants to do it. LOL.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? DO YOU HAVE KIDS? ARE YOU MARRIED?
I grew up here in San Diego in the Mira Mesa/ Scripps Ranch area. I have two human kids, Sadie (12), Colby (11) and one fur child Dash (5) our Ridgeback. I am married to the boss, which can be both good and bad some days. Mostly good, but Jason may have a different opinion on working with his wife.
IF YOU HAD A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE & WHY?
If I could have a super power it would be hands down the ability to teleport. I have to be in so many places some days between kids needing me, volunteering at the school, helping my mom out, running errands around town or just trying to escape for a moment of peace. Teleporting could really come in handy for most moms juggling a millions things.
