MEET: Jeff Severson
JOB TITLE: Business Development Officer
TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOB. WHAT IS IT LIKE WORKING AT PFC?
Another day another dollar. I’m just punching the clock here.
(Just kidding! I KID! I’m kidding!)
I’m new to Primary Funding, but Primary Funding is not new to me! In fact, Primary Funding is like family to me… literally! My brother, Jason, is the CEO and my sister-in-law, Diane, our “VP of Miscellaneous”, basically grew up in the business, given her mother, Patricia Burns, founded the company back in 1995.
I officially joined the Primary Funding team back in July of 2020, and it has been nothing short of terrific. The company culture is the best I’ve ever experienced in my career, and I’m not just saying that. The fact that we enjoy spending time with each other even outside of work is a testament to the great culture we have here. We are all rowing in the same direction. Everyone supports each other and works hard to live up to our company’s core values and guiding principles. Our mantra to clients is, “We care about your business’ growth and success.” I know this to be true because I see first-hand, the passion and hard work our team puts into helping and being of service to our clients.
I work on the business development side of our company. We are a relationship-oriented business, so we don’t view our work as merely transactional. Rather, we want to build trust, confidence, and ultimately a win-win working relationship with our clients and future prospects. I’m involved at the very beginning stages of this process, where we are learning about the potential client’s business, identifying their needs and fostering a quality relationship with them. A lot of what I do involves communications, from initial outreach to helping potential clients prepare an application for underwriting, advancing them to the proposal stage, then hopefully us funding them. I also work on various sales and marketing initiatives, including this newsletter, to help grow our brand and engage with businesses that may need our services. I really enjoy creative collaboration, helping people and problem solving. I’m grateful for the opportunity my job gives me to do these things.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO ON YOUR DAYS OFF?
Wrestle alligators, bull riding, and synchronized swimming with Great White Sharks…you know, the usual stuff. 😊
I love the active, outdoor lifestyle here in San Diego. There’s so much to see and do here. My girlfriend, Laura, and I like to do mini weekend vacations. We recently drove up to Tahoe and went snowmobiling. Another weekend we drove out to Ocotillo Wells and went 4-wheeling in the Jeep.
I also enjoy playing golf, surfing, hiking, biking… Laura and I recently started playing a lot of pickleball. It’s a fun, fast game, and great exercise!
I’m also writing an adventure novel series for kids / young adults. It’s a fun creative outlet and my goal is to have the first book done by this Fall.
WHERE DID YOU GO TO COLLEGE? WHAT IS YOUR DEGREE IN?
I went to Humboldt State University up in Northern California for two years, then I transferred to Long Beach State University where I graduated with a B.A in Communications.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? DO YOU HAVE KIDS? ARE YOU MARRIED?
I’m originally from Iowa, but we moved to Oceanside when I was 10 years old. I don’t have any kids, but I’m a proud Uncle. I have a niece, Sadie, who’s 12 going on 17. And I have a 11-year old nephew, Colby, who has more energy than a fully charged Tesla.
I’m not married, but I have an amazing girlfriend, Laura, who I mentioned before. She has a 2-year old granddaughter, with another one on the way, so we are having fun with that.
IF YOU HAD A SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD IT BE & WHY?
I would like to be able to clone myself, then I could seriously multi-task. My output/production would be through the roof. I could work, get several Masters degrees, finish all of my creative projects, travel, go surfing, play golf and relax… ALL at the same time!
