In a year when the unimaginable cast doubt and peril to all, American Tuna and Primary Funding partnered together to bring some much-needed help to the local community through charitable contributions.
Founded in 2005 by six American Pole & Line fishing families in San Diego, American Tuna started with the mission to provide the highest quality sustainable canned albacore tuna customers can buy directly from the source. Using a traditional harvest and packing method, they offer the highest quality, all-natural tuna pack on the market. American Tuna started in just two Whole Foods Markets in our hometown of San Diego and have since expanded into every Whole Foods location nationwide, as well as many other organic markets, restaurants, deli’s, and catering companies.
As stated on their website, www.americantuna.com , they have 100% Traceability for every single albacore harvested, meaning they can trace their final canned and labeled product back to the vessel that caught it. American Tuna is caught using the MSC Certified Sustainable Pole & Line Harvest Method in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Packed by hand in Oregon, their cans are BPA Free and manufactured in America. Pole & Line caught Albacore Tuna are on average 12 – 20lbs, making them naturally low in mercury. American Tuna was ranked as the “Best Specialty Tuna” by Bon Appétit, and has been featured as “Tuna you can Trust” by Martha Stewart Living.
In 2018, American Tuna saw the demands of their canned tuna grow and partnered with Primary Funding to help with their cash flow. 2020, however, presented a new opportunity for their partnership to extend beyond a successful business relationship, and into one of community service with its support of Feeding San Diego.
The mission of Feeding San Diego is to connect every person facing hunger with nutritious meals by maximizing food donations and rescue. Established in 2007, Feeding San Diego is the leading hunger-relief and food rescue organization in San Diego County, and the only Feeding America member in the region. Feeding San Diego is an independent nonprofit organization operating and funding local programs in San Diego County — every dollar donated remains in our local community.
During the current COVID-19 pandemic, Feeding San Diego listed their most needed items on their website. Atop the list was canned tuna. Knowing that American Tuna is the leading provider of tuna within the region, Primary Funding reached out to see if they could help. Through a collaborative effort, American Tuna was willing to donate 20 cases of their tuna to help support Feeding San Diego. As part of that collaborative effort, Primary Funding agreed to match the monetary value of the canned tuna by making a direct financial donation to Feeding San Diego.
